Music and Brain Development

Music and Brain Development

We often hear that “music soothes the savage beast.” We know that it can surely stop a crying baby or calm a pouting toddler. Did you know that music can also increase brain development?

Going to the Zoo

Going to the Zoo

IMG_4813During summer many families decide going to the zoo is great summer entertainment. Most kids love to see animals and going to the zoo is the perfect place to do that. As a parent it’s fun to see your child’s eyes light up as they view an elephant for the first time or see their giggles as they watch the monkeys play.
Going to the zoo is a real “no-brainer” as a form of entertainment. Kids are easily engaged as they watch the animals. When you have younger children it’s easy for parents to suddenly find themselves asking their child what sound a certain animals makes or mimicking it.

What is on Your Summer Agenda

ToddlerEatWatermelonWhat is on Your Summer Agenda

If you've been following AroundTownKids then you may know we've been around a while. Twelve years to be exact!  We really enjoy helping you find things to do with your kids by providing an up-to-date daily event calendar.
As summer gets closer and summer attractions are ready, we will also provide you with more suggestions such as water parks, day trips & more.  Summer is coming so the kids will want to know (and so will you!) What is on your summer agenda? How are you going to keep the kiddos busy this summer? Where will you go? What will you do?
After a while you've had enough of parks and pools so you need more ideas. We can help!
Kidding Around Town
Kidding Around Town
You can refer to our website, AroundTownKids.com any time for free information.  Once summer hits we know you'll want ideas on where to take the kids to keep them entertained.
What you may not know, is we also offer a companion book, Kidding Around Town, that not only lists where you can take your kids, but activities you can do with them once you get there.
The activities are in a handy section broken out by age and by location type. By that I mean what you'd discuss or do with a 2 yr old is different than what you'd discuss or do with a 5 or 10 yr old. So you want the activities broken out by age.
Also, what you'd do or discuss at a zoo is different than what you'd do or discuss at an art museum for example. So we did the work for you & broke out the activities by age and location.
Just so you know the activity information is copyrighted so you won't find it by googling. That's what makes this book unique and why many moms won't leave the house without it!
If you are interested in reading more about this guide book for parents click here. You can order it on Amazon in print or Amazon kindle version.
In the meantime, start figuring out what is on your summer agenda. We'll be here to help! Stay tuned to AroundTownKids for lots of summer ideas! Or check out our guidebook, Kidding Around Town.
All our Best,
The AroundTownKids Team

Entertaining Kids on Road Trips

Don't let your kids zone out the entire road trip!

Entertaining Kids on Road Trips

Summer is coming and you are probably planning your summer vacation. If your summer vacation involves a road trip you might be wondering why you chose that when the kids start to complain of boredom. Fear not, moms, you can keep your kids engaged!
While many cars come equipped with DVD players so you can entertain your kids with movies and kids have their own electronics, sometimes it’s good to take a break from all of that. Electronics tend to be a solitary activity so get the kids to power down for a while so you all can have some group interaction. Stimulate your child’s brain with some fun car activities.
Read on for Entertaining Kids on Road Trips Tips.

Do you have a Summer Plan?

The kids will be out of school soon. Do you have a plan?

While many of us will go on a summer vacation, it generally only lasts a week or two. Then what will you do with the rest of your time?

Summer camps? If you are a working parent, that is a must. If you are a stay-at-home parent, you probably mix some camps in to alleviate boredom. There’s always plenty of fun things you can do at home and visit with friends or grandparents.

What about the rest of your time?

Indoor Activities for Cold Weather

What to do when it's Cold Outside: Indoor Activities for Cold Weather

Parents of pre-schoolers, you know all the "regular" things to do when it's cold outside like coloring, finger painting, playing with dolls or trucks etc.  As a parent we have to have our "fall back" list of things to do when the weather outside isn't so great like cold weather days.

Think outside the box for indoor activities when it's cold outside. What can you do that's different or maybe even relates to or supports cold weather?

Holiday Fun in Dallas Fort Worth

When you have young children it is such a special time of year to do holiday related things such as "Breakfast with Santa," holiday parades and all those other fun things that only come once a year. We have many fond memories of doing these things. Kids grow up so fast so cherish this time with them. Before you know it they won't believe in Santa!

While you're out having fun during the holidays, remember, you can mix some education into it too. We're not talking about having an entire science lesson or anything like that!  It can be things as simple as counting the number of gum drops you use to make a gingerbread house to reinforce math concepts. Or reciting the names of Santa's reindeer to build memory.

Many of you parents may already be doing things like this. If you are, we are proud of you. If you're not, we can help you.

Either way, we have a great stocking stuffer idea this year.  Treat yourself, parents, or have your parents buy it for you - to our "edu-tainment" guide to Dallas Fort Worth, Kidding Around Town.

Kidding Around Town is filled with tips, 100s of locations and fun-to-do activities that enable you to connect with your kids; all the while learning and having fun.

More than a listing of local attractions, Kidding Around Town provides inspiration for creative outings as well as detailed, location specific guidance on how to engage children in different age groups (from one to six and beyond) in order to maximize the impact.

What better gift this year than giving the gift of education to your children (or grandchildren).
