Take the "stuffiness" out of museums by making your next trip more enjoyable.
Not everyone likes museums and we certainly understand that. Museums don't have to be boring and stuffy. You can make them more enjoyable for you and the kids. Luckily living in a large metropolitan area we have plenty of museums to choose from.
Here's my Top 5 Tips for Making Museums Fun:
Top 5 Tips for Making Museums Fun:
1. Pick a Special Interest Museum -
By that I mean a museum devoted to a specific topic. Some kids are really "in" to certain topics so special interest museums are a perfect way to satisfy their curiosity.
If your child is interested in airplanes you are in luck as there are several airplane museums in the area. If you're not sure where they all are, be sure to download a copy of our FREE ebook, "For Kids Who Love Airplanes."
Is your child interested in trains? Luckily for you Dallas Fort Worth has several museums devoted to trains including the Interurban Railway Museum in downtown Plano.
2. Choose a Museum more "Manageable" in Size -
Large museums can be overwhelming for the best of us, but particularly for smaller children. There are a few local museums that I love because they are smaller and more manageable in size.
Examples include the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary and the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park. The Heard Museum combines natural science with nature trails kids can run around on to burn off some energy before or after their museum visit. The Children's Aquarium features lots of kid-friendly displays so you don't have to "boost" your child up to see what's going on.
3. Find a Museum with a Section Devoted to Kids -
A trip to the museum will definitely be more enjoyable if it's devoted to kids! The Perot Museum in Dallas does a great job of catering to kids in the Moody Family Children's Museum located on the bottom floor, where kids can crawl through trees, go on an indoor nature hike and more. We also love the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History Children's Museum complete with a grocery store, medical area and lots more things for kids to do. Kids won't know they're learning when they're having this much fun!
4. Engage them in Activities while Visiting -
We have just the solution for you! Pick up a copy of our new book, Kidding Around Town, before you go and use it to guide you through these museums. Research shows that kids brains grow when they're actively engaged in learning. With the fun activities in Kidding Around Town you can sneak in some education on your next trip to a museum.
P.S. You can find all of the above mentioned museums along with fun-to-do activities in Kidding Around Town.
5. Monitor Your Time -
Particularly if museums aren't yours or your kids "thing" but you're going because you know it's good for you and them, don't feel like you have to spend all day. Even if you enjoy museums, we all reach our limits and smaller children reach them faster than the rest of us. A handy recommended outing length time is provided in Kidding Around Town.
Enjoy your next trip to a museum and make it fun with these tips!
