Wish you Were Born Rich?

Even if you weren't born rich, you can help your children become rich (and you too). And here's how.

Do you ever watch that show, "Through the Wormhole" hosted by Morgan Freeman?  I'm a science geek at heart so I enjoy watching that show.

Recently an episode aired discussing if genetics play a role in whether we become rich or poor as we grow up.  And guess what they found out? Yes (with a qualifier of course).

What they found was that for people born into lower economic status (not much money) our environment plays a larger role than genetics. For those born into higher economic status (where money isn't an issue), genetics plays a larger role in determining their financial outcome later in life. (If you missed this episode, you can watch it on itunes.)

And do you know why they came to that conclusion?

Research showed that the brains of children born into lower economic status were not as highly formed in certain areas vs children born into a higher economic status. And why?

Because children born into poverty or a more challenged financial situation don't have the money to go out and do things like visit aquariums, zoos, museums etc (they specifically stated these types of places on the TV program!) to feed their brain and become smarter.

That reinforces my message to you as an author that it is vital to take your children out places and teach them while you are there. It will feed their growing brains and make them smarter...and hopefully one day make them richer.  Not that money is the "be all to end all" in life but it does help our lives run smoother to not to have to worry about it.

Scientists found a direct link between intelligence and money. Generally the smarter you are, the greater your chance of making more money.

That's not to say children in economically challenged environments aren't smart, but because their brains weren't stimulated (by going places & learning), their brain didn't grow into a "smarter" child. And if they didn't become smarter, they have less of chance to grow up and be financially successful.

As a fellow mom, I can understand we all want our children to grow up and be smarter and financially successful. We don't want them to struggle, especially if we did. We want the best for our children and are willing to sacrifice for them.

As a mom and an author, I wrote my book, Kidding Around Town, to help YOU help your children become smarter which will hopefully lead them to becoming a financially successful adult.

If you are on a budget, I certainly understand. Please don't let that stop you from taking your children out to help them become smarter adults.  To help you plan your outings, in the back of my book every location mentioned in DFW (there are hundreds!) is broken out by price. And guess what? The majority of them (over 100!) are FREE!  How's that for helping your summer budget? :)

If you just want a list of free things to do, you can always download our free ebook, "75 Free Things to do in DFW" but it won't give you the activities to do at the locations. The activities provided in Kidding Around Town are what are key to growing your child's brain. You won't find those by googling because that is unique to my book.  And by spending less than ten cents per location information in my book, it is a bargain!

With all the free time you'll have with your kids this summer, I encourage you to take them out, do things and TEACH them while you're there!   You'll entertain your children AND make them smarter at the same time!

Enjoy your summer!

P.S.  If you are on a budget, please consider ordering Kidding Around Town before June 9th as the discount expires June 9th.  It is my wish for you to enjoy your summer and help your child develop a smarter brain. :)  Our children are the future of our world. So let's make them smarter to make a better world.
